Click Tracks are an efficient way of combining live musicians with pre-recorded content. The musicians wear headphones and listen to the “click” and this helps the live performers sync’ with the pre-recorded material. This image (left) is of me performing with a Jazz quartet, synched to a movie which is shown on a screen behind us.
Usually, click tracks are used to add additional audio such as such as backing vocals, extra guitars, keyboards, strings etc.
It’s often best to create the Click Track and the written arrangement at the same time so that indications can be marked on the part for the musicians and to make sure that the recording and written music tie in together.
